Early December starts with a bang in Sestola, as, following the patron saint festival – Saint Nicholas of Bari on 6 December – it is time for the long Immaculate Conception weekend (around 8 December) and the magic atmosphere of the Christmas markets.
“Appennino inCanto” winter edition: during the Immaculate Conception weekend, the great hall and Art Deco rooms, the vintage charm of a period dwelling, and the warm cosy hues of Hotel San Marco, make the setting for an increasingly popular happening.
Young artists train with the master-class held by maestro Angelo Gabrielli, and delight locals and tourists with improvised singing sessions at venues in the historical centre. In the evening, the opera dinner at the hotel, with the pianoforte standing in the middle of the room and the vocal performances of the protagonists of “Appennino Incanto”, makes one of the highlights of the season.

The initiative is so spectacular it has also been broadcast by Rai (Italy’s national TV channel). As it usually takes place on New Year’s Day, it is a good reason for spending New Year’s Eve on Mount Cimone!

The Cimone area also features ski schools for those wanting to snowboard or practice Telemark skiing, while specific cross-country skiing circuits are found at Lago della Ninfa lake and at Cimoncino.

The 50 km slopes in the Cimone area are ideal for all skiing levels, meeting both the requirements of parties of friends and families. The Scuola Italiana Sci (Italian Ski School) proposed individual, group, and collective classes. You can easily book your classes through the website, on your own or with the support of the hotel staff.

Superb experience

We recently stayed at Hotel San Marco for 2 nights. The hotel is closely located to the bus station and surrounding shops/restaurants. Reception was lovely and spoke English very well. Upon arrival, check in was fast and our room was ready with all our request met. Room itself had a lovely view of Sestola and the bathroom was very clean & full equipped. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and they provided a shuttle service to drove us to and from the ski site. On many occasions, hotel staff went out of their way to help us plan our vacation. We will definitely be coming back to stay at Hotel San Marco.
